Tree Cutting Techniques

Cutting down a tree is more complicated than just whacking it with a hammer. The Notch for an Open Face

For trees that need a high degree of precision, the open-faced notch is optimal. The open-faced notch is the best notch to use if the user is cutting in a confined space where precision is critical. A wide, sideways V is cut into the tree’s side in this notch. It’s a notch for a lot of angles. The first cut should be made at least 70 degrees backward. At a 20-degree upward angle, the bottom cut is made. Then, on the back of the tree, a slight horizontal cut can be created, matching the point in the V. The only disadvantage of this notch, apart from the extra time taken, is that the cutter would have to extract the hinge, resulting in a small amount of wood being wasted.

The Notch when We See It

Since it is the most traditional form of notch, it is called the traditional notch. It is the method of choice among loggers and tree removal experts because it is both fast and secure. It also allows for some precision, although not as much as the open-faced notch. The top cut in this notch is angled, while the bottom cut is horizontal.

Another traditional notch used when cutting trees is the Humboldt notch. The top cut in this notch is longitudinal, while the bottom is cut at an upward angle. Since the kickback over the stump will be greater in this notch, it is not recommended for leaning trees. The Humboldt notch, on the other hand, saves a tonne of timber, so it’s a smart idea when the tree is being cut for the purpose of utilising the wood.

Prior to beginning tree removal, it is critical to thoroughly assess the form of cut. In any scenario, the best practicable cut can be used to efficiently and correctly get the tree down. For the most part, this would include using the open-faced cut to get the tree down. However, the person must recognise the direction in which the tree is leaning, the general health of the tree, the hazards in the tree’s path, and the tree’s height.
